Large Parry Sound 33 is not the first fire started on Henvy Inlet industrial work site

8 days ago I posted on the Henvey Inlet fire that continues to burn with an unchanged status of “Not Under Control”, as indicated on the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s GIS application (shown below)- but following my post the “Cause” status was changed, from “HUMAN” to nothing at all.

I was alerted that the MNR’s GIS tool also has an “Out” option, and that reveals a fire identified as Parry Sound 7, started May 17, 2018. As I post this, that fire remains identified as having a “HUMAN” cause.

Parry Sound 7 is listed as only 0.2 hectares in size (Parry Sound 33 is nearing 9000 ha), but it was reported and that begs the questions about the Ministry’s, and the wind farm developer’s, investigation and response. This is particularly true as fire intensity codes for industrial operations exist.

Were fire intensity codes applicable to Pattern’s wind project, and were the “several small fires” the CBC was told, by “a number of workers”, preceded Parry Sound 33 reported to the appropriate authority – presumably the MNR?

1 last question: will the MNR scrub the “HUMAN” from the Cause field of Parry Sound 7 too?

I’ve created a view of both prospective industrial wind turbine locations and the initial locations of the 2 fires.

Original July 22nd tumblr post

Henvey Inlet area on fire because…

A mandatory evacuation order was issued Friday for the Key Harbour area and the municipality of Killarney, south of the French River Provincial Park, after a fire more than quadrupled in size to about 19 square kilometres, according to Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

A Canadian Press report published on the Globe and Mail’s website 13 hours ago attributed a claim that  “new fires were ignited by lightning strikes Friday,” to Isabelle Chenard, “a spokeswoman for Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry”

Yesterday afternoon – so presumably prior to the Canadian Press report, the local ParrySound.com reported,”The fires started in Henvey Inlet Territory and are believed to be caused by human action.“

Wind Concerns Ontario noted, on Facebook, comments by “an employee” working on the industrial wind turbine facility being constructed just off of Key Harbour.

You can thank the windmill project for the fire… they knew the forest was dry but all they care about is there (sic) $$$ push mother nature and this is what happens…

the faster they go the more money they make…

I’ve marked up a map indicating the border of the evacuation order area, Key Harbour – the grey circles indicate possible industrial turbine locations in the facility under construction.

Lightening?

Update:

I was messaged with this link showing the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry does indeed show the cause of the fire as “human”- and it places the fire icon within the IWT cluster.
