The Liberals run from their record

Kathleen Wynne had a chance to earn back citizens’ trust after Dalton McGuinty left with his reputation tarnished. Instead, she’s shown the same inclination to buy votes and cover up mismanagement that brought down her predecessor.

Much has been made of the valid critique of Tim Hudak’s job numbers by several smart economists. But many of those same economists shake their heads at Wynne’s willingness to keep adding to Ontario’s debt.

Ontario’s numbers are going in the wrong direction, and Wynne bears responsibility for that. 

Ontarians are paying $11 billion in interest this year while the Liberal deficit grows. Statistically, this government doesn’t actually outspend the other provinces, on a per-capita basis. But the money they do spend is too often wasted, or misused, and the debt is unsustainable. Wynne exhibits the Liberal tendency to believe that if something ought to be done, government…
